Twitter Integration
« on: December 18, 2009, 04:45:45 PM »
This is a feature that some people will like, and other people will hate. I have integrated Twitter onto one of my game websites as a replacement for the announcements system. The users of my website love it, as they can either see the announcements when they login, or they can see them as they are made on their Twitter account. I have also found that Twitter integration has brought new people to my game, it is a great promotional tool.

It could also be a good idea to give users the choice of using the Twitter module on their profiles. This can easily be configured using the Twitter API code. You would just need to add a field where they can enter in their Twitter username, create the database table, and insert the code into the API.

I will have a muck around with the Twitter API and will post any progress.

this sounds good but what about us people who dont like twitter?

the engine should have this and a paper so that way you dont have to set up twitter when starting with the engine

I am not proposing for this to come pre-installed, although it would be good if it was included in the package documentation, so that people have the option of installing it if they wish.

I have posted the modification, it would be good if someone gave it a try.  :)

It IS a good idea, but I don't think if we begin to integrate websites with the engine, we should go global, and not just twitter.

For example, most major websites have a feature where you can integrate your account with Facebook, etc. - thus creating more publicity.

Agreed, facebook is far more powerful than twitter.
But global would be ideal.

Facebook, Bebo, Myspace are all old news Twitter will in the future take over Facebook IMO.

Good job, Mark

Facebook isn't Twitter.
Facebook was designed for social bookmarking, twitter... well for updates.
Twitter will never be as popular as Facebook.
